Write your website address on dollar bills

by Patrick Altoft on / 6 responses

This is one of the most original methods to increase website traffic I have seen.

Every time you get paper money in your hands, write or stamp your domain name on it somewhere. Every person who comes in possession of that dollar will see your domain name. Ever hear of Where’s George? Their website is showing a Google PageRank of 6/10 right now, and TONS of people have heard of it.

This is probably illegal so don’t do it too much.

Sadly it appears to be illegal in both the US and UK to deface currency and you’ll be easily tracable shame…

It is only illegal if you intend to make it unusable. Writing the site on it, hardly qualifies under the law…
“Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

Defacement of currency in such a way that it is made unfit for circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the United States Secret Service. Their address is: United States Secret Service, 1800 G Street, N. W., Washington, DC 20223.
