World Bank develops an open source reputation monitoring tool

by Patrick Altoft on / 3 responses

Pierre from the World Bank left a comment on my reputation monitoring post offering a link to a neat application they have developed.

The application was designed to monitor what people were saying about the World Bank in loads of different languages and looks like it will be a very heavy duty reputation monitoring tool.

I didn’t think the World Bank was into developing open source Web 2.0 applications but it looks like they have done a good job with this one.

It is hard to make sense of the amount of information available on the web today, yet it is critical to listen and engage. We developped the BuzzMonitor, an open source application that “listens” to what people are saying about the World Bank across blogs and other sites in order to help the organization understand and engage in social media.

After receiving positive feedback about the application and seeing how many organizations are struggling to make sense of online conversations, we decided to release it as a packaged, open source application. We think it is a good, affordabe tool for non-profit organizations, NGOs, foundations and think-tanks to see and hear what people are saying about them, their programs and understand the perception around important issues.

Check it out at The BuzzMonitor site.

Patrick,
thanks for the note. If you plan on installing or using the buzz, please let me know your thoughts.

I’ve been using this recently and I’m really not a fan. There seems to be far too much ‘fuss’ involved when it could be a lot simpler.

Patrick, did you get around installing the buzz monitor? what was your experience like? Also, is it easy to add more sources to aggregate data from? I have still not heard concrete reviews.
