WhyFirefoxIsBlocked.com wins linkbaiter of the month
All the attention towards some guys attempt to block Firefox users
from visiting his website shows true marketing genius.
Jack Lewis, as he is apparently
known, has targeted the most loudest and most passionate group of
internet users with his tirade against Firefox. Whats more cunning is
that he responds with comments that get everybody even more upset than
normal.
An incorrect story about the site being hacked hit over 5,500 Diggs
yesterday, the only thing that could have got the site more links is
if he had faked his own hacking attempt.
You really can’t come up with linkbait this good. It has the
essential ingredients of controversy, passionate demographic, appeal
to social media and the unique angle that makes famous bloggers feel
that they just have to add something to the conversation and link to
the site.
For this reason WhyFirefoxIsBlocked.com wins my linkbaiter of the
month award for August 2007. Expect this to be a regular feature on
BlogStorm.

Whoever ‘hacked’ the site probably made a tonne from that firefox affiliate link?
While it is good linkbait it would be stupid for any webmasters to use it. I also think the Adblocker is stupid. There is no reason to block ads. I almost never click ads but I don’t need to block them. Pop-up blocker is all I need.
Forgot to mention the false hacking story was setup by someone using it to make money off FireFox referals.
I find it interesting that they call names and encourage illegal activities, but what I say is a “tirade”. Interesting dictionary you have there.
WhyFirefoxIsBlocked.com doesn’t link to any of my own sites, so how exactly does that qualify as “link baiting”?
Linkbaiting is the art of attracting links to a website. There are now a lot of links pointing to WhyFirefoxIsBlocked.com therefore it was good linkbait.
