The Dragons Den Effect
Yesterday was quite an interesting day in terms of traffic to BlogStorm. My post about Hungry House.co.uk was ranking 2nd behind the real site by Tuesday morning and was still there when Dragons Den was repeated at 7pm.
As you can see traffic was pretty high from Google and, thanks to the helpful comments by readers on the post, I think it was a useful story for people to read.
The 993 figure is traffic from Google yesterday.

Fantastic post Patrick - glad to see you getting loads of traffic from that. It’s a fantastic example of how to leverage other promotional campaigns for your own benefit.
I really hope one of the dragons stops by and sees how badly they’re doing in Google as per your earlier post!

Hey Patrick,
It’s nice to see that you are now ranking next to the original site you wrote about. One question - Had you planned all those keywords when you wrote about it? Or it was a natural incorporation because you were writing specifically about them?

I never write to include keywords in the post but the title intentionally had the website name in it. I figured ranking for “hungry house” would be tricky since Google splits the results in two with results for “hungry horse” so I went for “hungryhouse” instead.

Topical coverage like that can work a treat, a while back I did a brief post about companies bidding on the term northern rock.
Our piece got picked up on universal search as a blog result and sent through a few users. Not as many as you’ve got from dragons den, but then we were right at the bottom of page one

What really amazes me (or worries me) is that 66 people were stupid enough to type hungryhouse.co.uk into Google rather than into the URL bar! Who said we were too over reliant on Google
It certainly shows how lucrative optimising for popular URLs can be.
