People start noticing Squidoo spam
Om Malik seems to have cottoned on to the fact that Squidoo has a bit
of a spam problem. The only
surprising part of this is that it has taken so long for it to become
an issue. As soon as Squidoo launched internet marketers were using
the trust of the domain to get their lenses to the top of the search
engine rankings.
Google seems to have become wise to this practice now and even by
pushing thousands of links at certain pages people are struggling to
obtain good rankings for highly competitive search terms using Squidoo
lenses.
The thing about Squidoo is the lenses are disposable so you don’t have
to worry about getting your real website banned, people are pushing
millions of spam links at a lens with nothing to lose. This is where
Om Malik is coming from, blogs are being filled with comment spam with
links to Squidoo lenses. Malik suggests Squidoo is seeing good growth
rate based on the Alexa data which is backed up by
Compete data.
SEO hating Jason Calacanis spotted the Squidoo issue early this year after
certain people used Squidoo to
rank for his name.

Lets see how much spam is actually in the 660,000 page monster that is Squidoo.

And some here too site:squidoo.com+cheap
What do you do with Squidoo?

Squidoo is a pretty lame site anyway really. I’d never use it just as a websurfer. It’s just a tiny bit of content with a bunch of ads. Why not go to a real website? … I don’t see any draw in it for normal people.

I find that Squidoo is an interesting way of earning money online, and although there is obviously a fair amount of spam, there is still a lot of excellent content on there.
Some Squidoo sites also rank quite highly in Google, so Google can’t be completely ignoring them….
