Sphinn Spammers are Stupid

by Patrick Altoft on April 3, 2008

Recently there seems to be a lot of people who clearly don’t have a clue about search engine optimisation hanging around at Sphinn.

Take a look at the submission below for example, this user has picked probably one of the most competitive niches in the UK to target and the cornerstone to her linkbuilding activities are submitting spam posts to Sphinn without even bothering to disguise it as a Top 10 Tips for SEO’s to Save on Car Insurance article.

Luckily this user has some other linkbuilding methods in place such as submitting her site to Digg and Propeller as well so when the Sphinn submission gets deleted the site will still have some links.

These users are not black hats – any self respecting black hat knows that wasting time is a bad idea and they are aware that Sphinn moderators are quite likely to be able to spot and delete spam before Google even sees the link.

I also can’t believe they are new to the industry – how can anybody think that this tactic is a good idea? Whenever I start something new I try to ask experts or read what experts have to say. Usually this gives me a good working knowledge to start from without getting things massively wrong.

Do these people not read any of the blogs they see on Sphinn or are they too busy submitting their spam?

haha, that must be the worst link building strategy ever! Do they really think they stand a change to rank in that niche when that their tricks?

I’ve seen alot of this on lots of these digg types of sites, i dont see why they dont just cloak the url and if its a spider IP send it to the spam stuff and if its human send it to an article…. not to difficult to do nowadays and virtually undetectable by the sites.

Ha, if this is the only spam you’ve noticed on Sphinn, we mods are doing a good job. We’ve been cleaning stuff like that out for ages. Happens all the time! ;)

Too true – Sphinn really isn’t the best place to spam!! Maybe she’d just finished a long day of link-building and thought it was worth a try?

My bet is they are too busy reading creating their spam!

We must remember, that there are a number of people out there, business people as well, who still have little to no concept of how marketing actually works. Some people genuinely think that by posting links like this, other people may actually be interested and click through or vote. No real thought goes into it.

Working with small business websites every day, I am always amazed at how little they know or even think about how marketing works. They are so convinced in the brilliance of their offer or service (despite the fact that it’s not that brilliant) that they think telling people about it is enough.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t fully understand the SEO benefits of submitting to these sites but rather view any site with a comment screen or link submission form as a way to leaflet the world with their deal. They are just handing out flyers – internet style. Of course just as in the real world, we screw them up the moment we walk around the corner.

Hey hope that people here will answer :(

All our tools relate to SEO and I registered at sphinn, started to network there adding number of posts, telling how the tools we build contribute to search engine marketing, etc. I also had friends and we cooperated, networked on sphinn

second time already I visit my profile and … have no profile any more. No warning, no answering my questions.

you may have a clue ? I read all the terms and conditions…

I already am so annoyed want to give up. at least someone should give me some notice, since I am a sincere networker.

Fuck all you SEO bloggers whining on about crap. If you were any good you would be on holiday 10 months a year, not wasting your time trying to become an SEO authority.
