Sitelinks at last

by Patrick Altoft on / 10 responses

Today Blogstorm has finally been given sitelinks just 10 months after we launched.

It’s pretty rare for a site to get sitelinks inside 12 months so I’m quite pleased – it proves that getting links naturally works to build trust with Google.

The sitelinks are pretty strange but I will try and make them a bit better over the next few weeks.

Congrats Patrick. It deserved having sitelinks but having it within 12 months is just awesome :)

Hey Patrick,
Speak of the devil, I just got mine too (Winning the Web).. and in 6 months time (since I actively started blogging not when the domain was first indexed). Congrats! Now it’s time to optimize them. Mine are showing some funky results.

Nice job Patrick! One of my clients emailed me right as I was reading your newsletter and was wanting to know about the new “thingies” under her site listing. I’m pretty stoked for you and now for my client as well.

Cheers.

Congratulations! I guess I need to figure out what they are now so I can strive to get them.

Hi,

I subscribed to your RSS.

I don’t understand about sitelink in google. After reading your post, i tried google search for my domain name, fredchanblog, it show a sitelink. I started my blog with the domain name http://www.fredchanblog.com in November 2007. Thats only 5 months ago. It was ranked 5/10 by Google on 30 March 2008.

Initially I used my domain name as my blog’s name but in December 2007, I changed the blog title to ‘Trade Shares in Bursa Malaysia’ to better reflect my contents. Maybe my niche is ‘very niche’. I also started using SEO techniques in December 2007 which resulted in my keywords in the top 3 of the first page for SERP by January 2008.

Coming back, what is the purpose of sitelink in Google Search?

Fred Chan

Sitelinks are the list of links under the site, they appear for authority sites such as amazon and ebay.

I just got mine recently, I blocked some pages in webmaster central (they took 6 days to change) then I got some equally dodgy blog posts but I’ll leave it as is.

I believe sitelinks has everything to do with search content relevance. Nothing to do with age, (how many) links, pagerank or (how many) indexed pages.

For instance when taking a look at blogstorm sitelinks it features this webpage http://www.blogstorm.co.uk/guide-to-geo-targeting-for-seo-and-usability/ and when searching google for “guide to geo targeting” this results in #1 for blogstorm, when this keyword-content relevance match occurs you can get sitelinks. Imo.
