Roger Woody sues Christiansburg bloggers

by Patrick Altoft on / 7 responses

US based developer and landowner Roger Woody has apparently sued a group of local bloggers after they allegedly published misleading information about him on their website.

In a complaint filed Thursday in Montgomery County Circuit Court, Woody named Terry Ellen Carter, Tacy L. Newell-Foutz, Meghan Dorsett and Carol Lindstrom as defendants in the lawsuit, which asks for $10 million in actual damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.

He claims the women “combined, associated, agreed, mutually undertook or concerted together for the purpose of developing a Web site on the Internet to be used willfully and maliciously” to injure him in his business. The complaint, prepared by lawyer B.K. Cruey of Shawsville, lists the Web site as www.thinkchristiansburg.com.

I don’t really want to write my own thoughts about this (I’ve made that mistake before) so you will have to read the article yourself.

The moral of this story is that bloggers should be careful what they write. Whether you are in the right or not you can still be sued.

Thanks to Injury Lawyers First4lawyers for the tip.

My lawyer used to say “I can’t stop people from suing you”. Anyone can sue anyone for any reason.

Sadly, our society is getting ever litigious every day, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. As pissed as I get about it and even blog about the fact that being a dumbass who dumps hot coffee on yer bits gets you $3 million is absolutely ludicrous… it still keeps happening and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.

My only goal these days is to have so much money I won’t worry about affording a lawyer if anything retarded does happen. And knowing me, it has a good chance.

This group being sued back in court today and it’s moving forward. Wonder if plaintiff’s attorney ever contacted any of the defendents, or just jumped into the court system. If so, why? So much for having an opinion. And we ridicule China and their constraints on google et als.

These women, Lesbians, THAT IS THEIR CHOICE stayed away from Christiansburg for more than 30 years because their lifestyle was not welcomed by their familes. now that they are all dead they have come back with NO LIFE and attack eveything to make Christiansburg a more progressive place to live. REMEMBER VIRGINIA TECH COMES TO CHRISTIANSBURG TO STAY, SHOP AND EAT@!

As someone who knows all four of the women involved in the suit, I feel it is necessary to correct some inaccuracies, even though the charges have nothing to do with the merits of the case. And the facts are: 1) None of the families involved lived or had family members living in Christiansburg 30 years ago, although one did work in town in 1979. 2) All of them have and have had strong and positive relationships with their families, although family relations is hardly germaine to a discussion over a dirt pile. 3) Two are married and I suspect their husbands would be fairly surprised at the characterization. 4) All four own businesses in town and pay the broad range of business taxes imposed by the town; three own homes; two own multiple commercial buildings and pay property taxes. 5) Two have and continue to restore older buildings in the historic commercial centers. 6) All of them volunteer their time to community organizations. I find it sad that these women are forced to defend themselves against charges leveled by someone who clearly doesn’t know any of them.
