My Link Building Slides from Searchlove 2011

by Patrick Altoft on / 16 responses

Today I was speaking about link-building at the Searchlove conference. This conference has rapidly become the best SEO conference in the calendar and the quality of tips and information is always excellent. This year was even better than last year.

My slides from the event are below – any questions email me patrick @branded3.com. Please note that these slides have been edited slightly.

Patrick Altoft is Director of Search at Branded3, a Leeds SEO & Digital Agency specialising in SEO, Web Design, Development & Social Media.

I completely agree with all the things you mentioned in the slide, except for the first thing, Build links that are enough to rank #1 to be on safer side. Can you explain how that can hurt your site if you build more and more links as long as the links are coming from related and quality websites.

Hi Patrick,

I liked your presentation @searchlove a lot, especially the part about how much is a link worth. It is also true not to build links without improving the site – many SEOs tend to forget this nowadays.

Cheers from Hamburg!

Nice presentation, found the slide on link building process (sl9) very interesting. When a process is appropriately organised like that it can often be much more effective. Social trust slide also seem interesting, this aspect seems to be something developing with pace and looks to be a key player in successful link building

An interesting presentation, but from a niche marketing point of view it’s not always going to work. There are only so many quality links from relevant sites that you can get before you start having to look elsewhere and do something different.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to Searchlove but even so I loved the presentation, very thorough and informative.

Although I have to agree with the post above, for some more niche industries it becomes much mroe difficult and many options just aren’t available.

Yeah this was fantastic. I am going to forward this link to a few hands on clients to help them help themselves. Great show.

I’m going to have to make flowcharts like your process and news slides above.

Thanks for the organized look at things.

Would you consider making a video or audio file of the presenation on this … hard to get some of the key points from slides. Perhaps I had better show up at the next presentation you do … come out to Sydney Patrick and speak at one of our big IT events. Bill Gates recently popped in why can’t you!

Thanks for posting your slides Patrick. Excellent presentation. It’s given me some real food for thought as we consider how best to move forward on the link building side of our SEO.
