Learning SEO from forums

Learning SEO from forums

For those people with more time than money it can be useful to learn SEO themselves rather than paying for a consultant. Even if you are looking to hire a consultant it would be hard to find the right one without some kind of industry knowledge.

Thousands of people will never figure the subject out because they rely on forums for information, forums are full of people who know very little and yet feel they are qualified to answer questions about a subject.

Most of you will know that SEObook has launched a forum this week and it is looking good already even though I’ve only done one post. What makes this forum different is the questions will be asked by people who pay $100 per month to join (they must be serious about learning) and the questions will be answered by Aaron and other people who know what they are talking about.

I have to agree, that in this instance a paid forum is valuable.

I don’t consider myself to be expert level, or even close to, in terms of SEO, but I personally learn to the level I’m at now by finding the information myself.

My own approach was to establish author credibility and then follow what these people were writing (whether on forums, blogs or columns). And always checking the article date.

I honestly don’t feel that $1200 a year is really worth spending on just to gain access to a forum.

Fair enough I think its a good way to stop the annoying 13yr old kids from spamming the boards but I also think its a lot of money to spend on just one board.

I think a one off payment would be more successful and having to pay $100 as a one of payment will weed out the spammers while also allowing other poorer people access.

I simply feel that $1200 can be better spent throughout the year than focusing on a forum.

OT: Hi Patrick, fix your design for Opera users, thanks.
