Join Twitter now or regret it forever
How many of you regret not starting your website in 1998? I certainly do.
If you’d started your website in 1998 with the knowledge you have now I can guarantee you would be a multi millionaire. If you had started blogging in 2003 you would probably have ten times as many subscribers as you do now.
If I had joined Twitter 12 months ago I would probably have over 1000 followers instead of the few hundred I have now. The count is going up very quickly but it still won’t ever be as high as the early adopters. Sending my updates to 240 people is great but imagine if I could send them to 2400 people or 24,000 people. The value of Twitter is exactly the same as the value of RSS subscribers.
How long are you going to wait before you join Twitter?

Yeah. I totally agree on that! Though now it is still possible growing our Twitter base at a steady rate.

I think a lot of us put off joining Twitter because it just didn’t seem like much more than a chat room but it has become so much more now.
I tend to jump on things a little late most of the time, like I was with blogging but eventually I smartened up and joined in.

I’ve noticed a trend that more and more people follow, joining Twitter, …but also I’ve noticed a lot of people quitting Twitter, because is to addictive, time consuming, and to follow a lot of people is hard.

Well…I started my first website in 1996, and registered my first proper domain (Sciencebase.com) in 1999…should I be a millionaire or did I cock it up somehow?

I remember when evrybody was telling me that I was missing the boat becasue I had not joined Facebook.
Does anyone still use Facebook?
I only ask because everyone keeps telling me that I now have to join Twitter–for fear that I will miss that same boat again. My guess is that in a year or two everybody will be telling me that I need to join the next new thing.

I have just recently started using Twitter and still trying to figure ‘just how to use it’ in my daily routine. Do you have specific ways you ‘use’ twitter, specific times you post, topics?
Also, I see the importance of getting people to follow your comments but what methods are you using to increase your followership (is that a word?
and what type of followers are you getting? People that were already contacts or are you finding many are new, same country?
Looking forward to reading your thoughts…

Since joining Twitter, I have not only gained followers and visitors to my main website, but I’ve also learned many things about new technology by just watching the updates;)

We are just about to launch a new website, I won’t blatantly put it here as I don’t want to be accused of spamming but if you’re interested it’s the name at the bottom left in blue with a dot com at the end – anyway, my name is Lauren and I’m Marketing Manager at Sososher, I have just joined Twitter to gain exposure prior to and after our launch. I have read a few articles, one of which says “Twitter is about to have a huge spam problem” – this is due to Friend Adder software. As I’m new to Twitter the only way I know how to get followers “not wanting to use spamming software” is to type in a Name or Location of someone I want to follow, and hopefully in return they’ll follow me back. The problem lies in the Stats Box, it currently says that I’m following 117 people but I’ve only got 7 people following me (hopefully it will be 8 as I’m now following you Patrick) , which might be perceived by others that I’m using a Adder Bot – I don’t know?
The article touched on the fact that one user was following tens of thousands of people but had less than 50 people following him back. So the short version to this long version is does Twitter really work and how much effort do you need to put it to make it work without looking like a spammer?

It does work but people won’t follow you unless you have something interesting to say. It is the same principle as blogs really.
