Half the money I spend on links is wasted, the trouble is I don’t know which half
John Wanamaker, a US department store merchant, once came up with the most famous advertising quote of all time:
Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don’t know which half.
A few years later the Internet came along and advertising could be tracked right down to the last pound. Then Google came along and required people to build links in order to achieve top rankings. Whether you buy links or get them free there is still a cost involved in terms of time or effort so it pays to know which links work best so you can build more of them.

i tend to read blogs that try new advertising networks to see what they have to say when it comes to their results… it’s as if they are doing the platform testing for me with their own money… for instance myspace recently started their own advertising network… well after reading a few blogs / forums i’ve gathered that it’s not the right time now to venture into something like that and waste my money.. so i kick back and wait a bit till the bugs are killed in their system and the advertising performance becomes better / easier…
Interesting quote! And it represents much for people who spend on Link Building (Paid Links)… Google just shut their link: operator so you wouldn’t know who is linking.. Yahoo! shows a lot and no one has a clue which has value and which doesn’t.. the funny fact is many links don’t exist but still show up in Site Explorer.
SEOmoz is coming up with a new tool which has been kept secret all these years… “Our Secret Project: Codename Carhole, is Set to Release on Oct. 6th at SMX East”
I wouldn’t talk much about it.. but I would say its something related to the post here.. not the best/accurate one.. but seems like it does the job! Oh yea, I’m one of their lucky beta tester for this tool! I hope it can do some justice to people who are blind about Link Building/Paid Links & for the one’s who need more insight about “links”.
Cheers!
