Green Tree Warehousing suffers reputation management nightmare

by Patrick Altoft on / 10 responses

Green Tree Warehousing Ltd, a packing company based in Doncaster, have suffered a reputation management nightmare at the hands of some money laundering “rockphish” criminals.

The criminals have created copies of the website which include a fake job advert designed to promote a non-existant financial coordinators job. The job advert requires a cash transfer to an anonymous account.

The problem is that the fake websites are all being indexed in Google making some very confusing search results. Try this search to see the sites being indexed and then try searching for “green tree warehousing ltd” and even “contract packing doncaster“.

One of the big problems is that the scammers have been sending out large quantities of spam emails which have resulted in people wrongly calling out Green Tree Warehousing on various anti-scam forums. These results are going to rank for their company name for years without correct reputation management.

Internet fraud expert Bob Harrison is on the case and has tried to get the sites shut down. 123-reg isn’t being helpful apparently. My suggestion would be a quick note to Matt Cutts so he can get these sites removed from Google ASAP.

hahaha, I’ve already got a few emails from them. As they claimed they found my email address on monster.com
well, I’m a smart and educated woman so I knew they wanted me to help them with money “laundering”.
but I suppose, there are some people who believe in their job offer. unfortunately…

I just opened an email from my boyfriends email box because i am trying to help him look for a job. Thinking it sounded legit because it said they saw his resume on monster.com, which it is posted on, I looked into it. Luckily I followed my instincts on the job telling me something was up, and googled the company only to find this piece on the exact position he was offered. Thank you for providing me with this information, otherwise bad news could have layed ahead!

They actually *did* obtain my email address from Monster.com
I gave a unique address to Monster, and that is the one which is being spammed with the “Green Tree” money-laundering role.
I’ve tried putting this to Monster, but they’ve repeatedly sidestepped or ignored the issue.

I am getting at least 3-4 emails from them a day. I updated my email on monster, and it got picked up the very next day. I had a live-chat with Monster support and the great gentleman from India (that is where their support is, just like every other American Public Company) and he pointed me to a link where by I could block offers from certain companies. Needless to say, that did not work and I still get the green tree emails. If you guys noticed, the email’s bottom part has random hex characters – a tell-tale sign of spam. Anyway, as long as Monster keeps ignoring our requests there is nothing we can do about it.

What can be done if someone has already fallen in their trap and what are the consequences?

Hi Patrick,

Nice article.. I understand it is a bit difficult to control external factors like this which damage the reputation of the company. i hope google punish these scammers by blocking their websites.
