Google Wave is the future of email

by Patrick Altoft on May 29, 2009

Words can’t easily describe how good Google Wave is, you just have to watch the video below to see for yourself.

Developers in the audience are applauding not just because they know how innovative it is from a users point of view but also because of how far beyond anything else that runs in the browser has ever been before.

Some short sighted people are calling it arrogant because there is no business model or marketing plan,

Google could launch 10 products a year and fail at them all without worrying – all they need is one genuine success every 10 years and they will make more money than most other web companies put together.

Strange if you don’t think there’s a business model there. I can imagine that large companies who want to protect their intellectual property (IP) will not want Google sniffing their content. Therefore Google can release a coporate-only solution that protects data internally, but promotes collaboration.

Like many others I am fed up with the hassle and time wasting associated with the use of email.

This looks a fantastic product if Google can get enough people using it – they really need to get it spread through word of mouth in the same way that Twitter usage has exploded.

Now of course by the time of Wave’s launch Google could also be running Twitter if the rumours prove true – if so the Twitter user base could prove a lucrative source of early Wave adopters. Just a thought!

Briefly looking at the screenshots, it seems very much like facebook.

Let us analyze those things

some very similar features to those found in facebook

It is similar, but like we saw, the real time behaviour of Wave is really cool. I know FB has an IM feature but it’s not really taken off.
