Google Suggest now with links & AdWords

by Patrick Altoft on / 10 responses

Google is adding some interesting new features to Google Suggest, the drop down box that appears when you start typing a query into the search box.

The first change is that as soon as Google figures out you might be performing a navigational query it will show a URL to click so you don’t need to actually perform a Google search.

The second feature will include AdWords adverts directly into the suggested results.

Having studied how normal people use browsers and the Google search box I don’t think this feature is going to get much use. A lot of people position the cursor in the box and then look at the keyboard to type the query before looking back at the screen once they have finished.

What is interesting is that you can now use AdWords to take a searcher from their target site to your own without them ever performing a search.

Wonder how long it will take for AdWords to start showing up in Google Chrome when you type a query?

If it makes them money, probably very soon indeed. :)

Interesting….. so how will this work? Do we get to choose if our ads appear in the search suggestion box? How does this effect impressions? What determines which ads appear? Not convinced this is a positive change.

by storing our searches it also shows suggestion on them also, so its useful for users saves lot of time.

Better be accurate with your pointer or you will end up on a site you didn’t want or with a search you didn’t want.

As a searcher and a Google AdWords user, i don’t think this is the best interest of either groups of people. It’s designed to push up the price of the keywords, and it limits the information presented to the users. Lose/ Lose situation me thinks. :(
