Google Coop about to get interesting

by Patrick Altoft on / no responses

The patent application for Google Coop surfaced last week revealing a couple of interesting features we might see in the future.
The first is that the service might in the future allow “IFRAMED content hosted on 3rd party servers” and the second is that users might be auto subscribed to certain content based on their location or operating system:

In one embodiment, however, the search results category can be provided to all users. Alternatively, the search results category can be provided to some users based on some criteria (such as browser platform, OS platform, geographical location, search history, demographics, website visitation history, or the like). In effect, then, those users for which the criteria apply can be auto-subscribed to certain links. In one embodiment, users are free to opt out after they have been auto-subscribed; in other embodiments, they may not have the freedom to do so.

Google Coop has a long way to go before it becomes mainstream, even the Digg module only has 18,000 subscribers. Perhaps auto subscribing everybody in the UK to something like the BBC would be a good way for the service to gain traction?
