Google Analytics loses a weeks e-commerce data

by Patrick Altoft on / 3 responses

Google Analytics is today reporting a data processing error from April 30th to May 5th. In addition they have lost a small percentage of data in the area of e-commerce reporting that is not recoverable.

As a company we have several clients on performance related contracts using Google Analytics e-commerce data so this is a worrying error.

System Message: Analytics Processing Delay from April 30th to May 5th

Google Analytics experienced a data processing error from April 30th to May 5th. Almost all of the data has been recovered and is currently being reprocessed. The recovered data will be reflected in your reports within a few days. Please note that a small percentage of data, particularly in the area of e-commerce reporting, was not recoverable from those dates.

We sincerely apologize for this processing issue and are taking every precaution to prevent such disruptions from occurring again in the future. For more information, please read through our common questions.

From the Common Questions:

Analytics users who do use e-commerce would have noticed a decline in e-commerce transactions being reported starting from April 30 to May 5. The data is being reprocessed and will be reflected in reports by May 14.

E-commerce transactions were affected more heavily than other metrics, and a small percentage of e-commerce data from those dates may not be recoverable. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.

Google appears to be updating the date ranges in question this morning, we are seeing more accurate statitics for that week then we did initially.

Google has proven to be extremely reliable and we should not hold this one incident against it.
