How can the Digg search function be so bad
Most people know that Digg is having problems with duplicate stories recently but this is the worst example so far.
Check these stories about “10 Tips for Improving Your Wireless Network”. Both have exactly the same url and exactly the same title and both have hit the homepage.

How hard is it to write some php code to see if a url has been submitted already or not?

Yeah digg search sucks hard core. Much easier just to do a search in Google site:digg.com keywords. But I guess that’s not an effective way to search digg if you are trying not to submit a dupe story, since google bot has to spider and index the page for it to show up and that may take a little while.
“How hard is it to write some php code to see if a url has been submitted already or not?” - Seriously.

I guess it is too hard in a site that initially cost $700.
I think Digg should be programmed again from scratch as it is too hard to optimize a project like this.
It is not a coincidence that Digg uses more servers than any other site of that size

Digg allows you to re-submit a site after some time (30 days?) In this case, it was 197 days.
I think digg even tells you that you are about to submit a dupe, but idiots (in this case msaleem) submit them anyway.
