Digg adverts are too boring to click

by Patrick Altoft on November 6, 2007

Since Microsoft became the PPC ad provider for Digg the ads have got worse and worse.
They are badly targeted and just plain boring. I’m in the UK and the ads are full of US content so I won’t click on them and even if I did I can’t buy the product.

Would you click on any of these? “Image for Windows” and “Insurance for the over 50’s”, on a site with an average age of about 25?!!

They are so plain. Why is that these large companies dont try to explore advertising placements and styles with new types of advertising solutions. No one is going to click on ads on Digg, the click thru rate must be terrible, so why not do all the ads on CPM. These ads would also be a good starting place for improving branding.

Man those are lame! Even the ones dealing with on-topic subjects that I might like, the ad is too lame to click (or there are spelling mistakes!)

Just doesn’t inspire you! Hope the people who wrote and published these ads aren’t getting paid, as they’re really not worth the money. I loved the top left, diversity inc., duh!, get some excitement into your ads guys.

you are lucky you get any ads at all, from my location most times I just get a big white where the sponsored links should be.

I don’t know about you guys, but have you seen the recent visa advertisements on Digg? They are pretty obscure and definitely clickable.
