Carphone Warehouse sending out automated link exchange emails

by Patrick Altoft on / 7 responses

Carphone Warehouse, the biggest mobile phone retailer in Europe, just sent me this auto generated link email:

Carphone Warehouse

In fact, I can’t really call it a link exchange email since they don’t even offer me one in return. Basically they are just firing out emails asking people to link to them.

If this is their SEO strategy it’s no wonder they no longer rank on Google. Also they should be deep linking to the product pages not the homepage.

What actually strikes me most is the link request itself. In stead of requesting links with a specific, temporary anchor text (who’s going to search for a K810i in 2 years?) to the home page of the website, they can better focus on removing that meta refresh…
*sigh*

I can picture it now. Someone hired their cousin who said “I know all about SEO” based on having read an article about it in Playboy 4 years ago. The person spends all of their work time looking at p0rn, and after weeks of doing nothing, they came up with this brilliant idea.

That said, I bet the get some takers.

Considering Carphone Warehouse also own AOL it just goes to show they haven’t quite got the hang of the internet yet.

Received the same thing from Mobiles.co.uk which is also owned by CPW, have also been asked by them to allow their team of writters to write a page of content for our site, in exchange for a link to theirs… they ended up writting a short description of a single phone, with urls in the content to their site.
