Ask me your SEO and blogging questions

by Patrick Altoft on / 11 responses

This is a first for BlogStorm but next week I would like to answer some reader questions.

So, if you have questions about SEO, linkbuilding, blogging, social media, affiliate marketing, running an affiliate program, ecommerce or anything else please post in the comments.

I’m happy to offer tips for specific niches but probably won’t be able to offer tips for specific sites.

Cool! I would like to be the first I have a link building question.

How effective do you think it is getting links from free hosted blogs such as blogspot and wordpress? In comparative terms, would you prefer links only from these blogs or directory submissions?

Thanks in advance!

What do you think of googlebombs? Were they really removed algorithmically or rather manually?

Do you have recommendations for good London-based, PHP developers? Smile

Do you think that everything is going to start becoming more of a niche like Digg-Clones or even Facebook clones for certain brands or clubs / teams.

Or do you think people will use the social networks available and build their communities within those?

I have a question I’d love to get answered Smile

Over the course of the first year of running a site, Google accounted for 93.41% of my search traffic – Yahoo accounted for 2.88%. Why on earth is there such a huge difference? Does Yahoo “punish” sites that they consider ‘blogs’ because they run WordPress?

I have a portuguese website with good content, good layout (so it seems) and it gets high rankings in search engines in some of the posts.

My problem is that I don’t have many people linking back to articles or subscribing my RSS feeds.
I’m hosting a contest to win an SEO Book and I have advertised it in forums, websites and e-mailed people and the response wasn’t that great.

So my big question is, what more can I do to get more readers to participare, subscribe to my feeds, link back and to create more exposure.

Thanks in advance

Hey Patrick! I have a question as well: i’ve started a new website focusing on a keyword that is soon to boom and get a lot of traffic in the next 6-12 months. Competition is still small and I’d like to grasp an advantage in the Searth Engines in advance. What I’m asking is how do I rank as high as possible for a specific keyword.

Besides link building with the specific keyword as anchor text, meta tags or permalinks. Do you know any secret ninja SEO i might use? Big Grin

I could use some help with some of the link building tools. I’ve done some research and think the following’s probably the best in the market for the various jobs. Hope to get your thoughts :

1. Directory Submission – G-Lock Fast Directory Submitter (next would be Brad Callen’s Directory Submitter)
2. Blog Finder – G-Lock’s Fast Blog Finder
3. Article Submission – Brad Callen’s Article Submitter Platinum
4. Book Marking – Bookmarking Demon 4

Thanks!
