3 months old, 1000 RSS readers

by Patrick Altoft on / no responses

BlogStorm is just over 3 months old this week and has just hit the 1000 RSS readers mark.

Given the traffic this blog has received (over 320,000 unique visitors and half a million page views) some of you probably expected a much larger readership. I started this blog without any real expectations so I’m very happy with the level of exposure we have gained.

For those of you expecting larger figures I will offer two comments – blogging is very hard work and starting a new blog from scratch is even harder. Until you have a good reputation and a long standing blog, visitors are very unlikely to waste their time signing up. The sheer volume of sites I visit every day via the various social networks pretty much means I can’t subscribe to any of them. My Netvibes account of 200 feeds grows by maybe 1 feed per week at the moment and none of the feeds I add are found via social networks (except for some I find on Sphinn).

The main way to build RSS readers is to be recommended by another blogger. BlogStorm has been linked from a good number of popular blogs, but not all of them, so there is plenty of room for improvement.

Finally I would like to say thanks to all the people who have subscribed over the last few months. Later this week I will be posting the answers to the “internet marketing questions” post so if you have any questions ask here.

Thanks guys. It will be interesting to see if more people subscribe now they know how many readers we have.

Patric that’s great,

I’m another subscriber but only since last week. I wonder whether you have some special strategies for achieving this number?
Congratulations ;-)

I don’t have any specific secrets really. Normally I try to use a combination of traffic baiting posts to get people to see the blog and in depth posts to make people want to subscribe.

I’ve been subscribed for a few weeks so far. Maybe I just forgot, but I didn’t realize your blog was only 3 months old.

Thats really awesome! Congrats!

I first subscribed when I saw a link to it from (I think) your Digital Point account a while back.

Congrats on the big 1k.

I found your blog thanks to your post on Google Analytics. The great content you had in that article was enough for me to add your blog to my BlogLines account.
Keep up the great work!

Congratulations! It’s taken me 8 months to reach 250 so you’re doing great. Wish I had more time to blog…

Excellent post Patrick, you’ve experienced some massive growth. I myself have launched my latest marketing and blogging blog a week ago; hoping to gain just a fraction of your success. Speaking of subscribers you may want to read a post I made about increasing your RSS count, it will take about 30mins-1hour to complete the steps, but you’ll increase your readers by 10-20%. http://www.lostartofblogging.com/the-9-step-ultimate-guide-on-how-to-increase-your-subscribers
